WHAT IS
BOONDOCKS?
What’s in the name?
Boondocks—pronounced /‘boon, däks/ or “the boonies”—entered American English during the Philippine-American War (1899-1902). At the time, American soldiers used the Tagalog word “bundok,” meaning “mountain,” to refer to remote areas that were difficult to access due to rugged terrain. In these highlands, Arabica coffee thrives, yielding a cup that’s as bold and distinctive as its origins.
Boondocks Coffee Roasters takes immense pride in its Filipino-American immigrant roots. Our primary mission is to shine a spotlight on the rich coffee offerings from the Philippines and showcase them on the global specialty coffee map.
We deeply value our farmers, their families, and their communities—both where the coffee is grown and here in the United States. We prioritize the use of safe and sustainable agricultural practices, partnering with reputable green coffee suppliers who share our commitment to fair labor standards. This ensures that every cup we serve reflects not only exceptional quality but a legacy free from exploitation.
Spending a few years of my childhood in the Philippines really shaped the work we're doing at Boondocks.
Our work with Boondocks is all
about showcasing the Philippines,
along with its colorful culture,
and creating a space for us on the
global specialty coffee scene.
To me, part of it is the level of hospitality I was accustomed to back in the Philippines. I wanted to capture that feeling and bring it back to life through specialty coffee. I want people to feel that sense of warm hospitality as they enjoy a cup of our coffee
WHAT DOES
GREAT COFFEE
MEAN TO YOU?
At Boondocks Coffee Roasters, we’re roasters first, coffee shop second. This foundation shapes everything we do. Our mission centers on three core values:
Community
We believe in building real relationships—with our farmers, our partners, and the neighborhoods we serve. Our work is rooted in mutual respect and a commitment to giving back.
Culture
At Boondocks, coffee is more than just a beverage. It’s a vessel for stories, a conduit for friendship, and a way of expression. We honor the traditions behind every origin and celebrate the people who carry them forward.
Craft
It’s all about the coffee we love, which is why our beans are picked, roasted, and brewed by hand, from start to finish. It’s a big part of what we do, and we take a lot of pride in it, just like the people we work with.
We roast and package all of our coffee in Los Angeles, California.
